Naples is an excellent destination when thinking about where to do for a weekend destination! We went in February of 2025 and just happened to go the weekend of Valentine’s Day! We mainly went for the food and we did take a day to go to Pompeii. Just by spending a weekend, we felt we had a enough time to make the most of the city!

Airport – Hotel Transportation

Overall we felt that the transportation in Naples wasn’t the easiest to get the hang of as a tourist. There were as many signs and we ended up having to ask some locals for directions. We opted to take a local bus from the airport but we got lost trying to find it and it ended up delaying us another hour before actually getting to our hotel. So – with that said the easiest method of transit is taking the AirBus.

The Airbus will cost 5 Euros per person. The bus is pretty easy to find right out of the airport. You simply walk out of the airport from the arrivals area and straight up the street. There is also an Airbus sign which is helpful. The bus can take you to the main central station, and there are additional stops after that as well. Be sure to look these up, as we found one near our hotel!

Where to Stay

We stayed at the Donna Lena Relais and found it to be in a GREAT location! The total cost for the hotel was $393.42 CAD and we stayed for 3 nights. After booking our stay we connected with the owner who gave us directions and check-in instructions via WhatsApp. This was helpful as it was a self check-in and we even got to have our room in the morning!

We chose to stay in the near the Università subway station area as it was walkable and close to may bars and restaurants!

Naples Eats!

It’s | caffè & bistrot – The Spark

Naples, Italy

This bookstore & cafe combo had the best environment to enjoy a great cappuccino while reading about Naples. The bookstore features texts in multiple languages and we chose to use our time browsing through travel books about the city. This is the perfect spot for brunch with a relaxing atmosphere!

Tandem Ragù Porta Capuana

Naples, Italy

When learning about “what to eat” in Naples, we knew that we needed to try the capuana! We opted to have the meatballs and ricotta cheese inside the bread and wow – was it ever tasty! Certainly a must-try when you come to Naples!

Cuoppo | San Biagio Dei Librai

Naples, Italy

Ru was so excited to try to cuoppo, which was a tasty takeout cup of deep fried sea food. It comes with skewers making it easy to eat. A perfect seafood snack while walking around the area!Signora Bettola – Napoli (Medina)

Upon checking into our hotel, we were advised to have a meal at Signora Bettola and wow – was it soooo good! Within 15 minutes of opening this restaurant was packed! Luckily we came a few minutes after opening and we did not have to wait for a table. We both chose to have pasta and we split our dishes so we could both try it! This restaurant is a MUST and you will not be disappointed!

Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria – Santa Lucia

Naples, Italy

Of course, what is a trip to Naples without trying the pizza? We were SO fortunate to be recommend this restaurant by a bar owner next door. This was by far the best pizza we had in Naples and we also learned that Diego Vitagliano had achieved multiple prestigious awards for being one of the top pizzeria’s! We were in for a treat!

Naples Drinks

Kitebeer

Naples, Italy

If you enjoy craft beer – this is the place for you! It had 7 beers on tap along with additional bottles you could choose from. There is no seating inside, however there was plenty of space outside and there was even an outdoor heater for us in February. Cool vibe and great drinks!

Tuxedo Cocktail and Wine Bar

Naples, Italy

This was also a favourite spot of ours! We both ordered cocktails here and enjoyed the outdoor seating. Again, with this being February we had an outdoor heater and were perfectly comfortable in the winter. The owner is incredibly kind and had a great time! He was also the one who recommended us to the award winning pizzeria next door!

Mast’o Beer

This beer hall had a pretty neat vibe and we enjoyed our time where upstairs on the small balcony area. Although it is not a large space, there is a decent amount of seating and it also had a projector upstairs – great for watching a sports matchup!

Things to Do in Naples

Day Trip to Pompeii

Pompeii

For on final full day in Naples, we decided to take the train to Pompeii! Pompeii is only a 40 minute train ride from the central station. Although you can take a train to the city of Pompeii, we recommend you take the Circumvesuviana train on the Naples-Sorrento line, which will take you to the exact stop outside the archaeological excavation: Pompei Scavi-Villa Misteri . We spent about 4 hours there and since we went in February it wasn’t too busy at all.

Pompeii

It was really interesting to see the city of Pompeii and learn about it became preserved due to the tragic eruption of Mount Vesuvuis in 79 AD. You can join a tour group for this, or choose to have an audio guide. We used an audio guide and found it to be extremely helpful to understand the significance of this site.

Pompeii

Via S. Gregorio Armeno (Christmas Alley)

If you enjoy visiting artisan markets, then you’ll want to head to this street, nicknamed “Christmas Alley”. It has many souvenir shops and keepsakes from Naples that are really neat to see! I can only imagine what this street would look like during the Christmas time! We noticed that this street was pretty empty on a Sunday afternoon with many shops not open, so be sure to keep that in mind!

Museums

Although we did not manage to go to any museums on our weekend here, there are plenty of them within the city that would certainly be worthwhile to check out! Here are just a few of them that are recommended. Click on the links below to find out more!

Underground Naples

Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli

Paleontological Museum

As you can see there are PLENTY of things to do in Naples, Italy! There are so many great places to explore, you simply can’t go wrong!
