San Telmo is a great place in Buenos Aires to enjoy a selection of craft beers. My partner and I are craft beer enthusiasts ourselves, and over the course of our stay we were able to find our favourite craft beer bars in the San Telmo neighbourhood. Each bar listed is quite unique, and they all had their own different vibe. I personally enjoy sour beers, and there was only one place on this list that did offer that. My partner, however, enjoys darker beers and IPAs, which most bars were able to provide.
The bar scene in San Telmo overall is really an awesome place to be. After exploring this area for 2 months, we easily found our top spots and to-go places for an awesome craft beer.

Where to Grab Craft Beer in San Telmo: My Top 5 Picks!
1. Bier Life: The Best Tap List
Hours: Tues & Wed 5pm-12am, Thurs 5pm – 1am, Fri & Sat 5pm-2:30am, Sun & Mon (closed)

If I have to give an award for the biggest menu selection of beer with the lowest price, then Bier Life would get that by a landslide. They have an awesome happy hour token system, in which you can get 2×1 drinks for their own Bier Life beer. They do have guest taps as well and had around 40 taps in total!
I was actually even able to find one of my favourite sour beers of all time here! However, when I went back the following week, that tap was no longer available. Although I was a bit sad about that, they have so many other beers to choose from that you’ll be able to find something that you like!
Bier Life also has an interesting vibe. It has a large indoor beer garden vibe with picnic tables in the back with a projector. There is a small seating area in the middle hallway area where the food kitchen is. There is also a section of seating in the front where the beer taps are, and that’s where we stayed.
If you are a big craft beer enthusiast and want a wide selection of beers, then this is the place for you!
2. The Gibraltar: The Best British Pub

We really enjoyed our time at Gibraltar, and it has that classic British pub feel. We decided to go there specifically because they were showing the F1 race and had a lot of fun watching the race with like-minded people around us.
Their prices are a bit more expensive than some of the other bars on this list; however, since we went there for the F1 race, we didn’t mind. I recommend trying their IPA. They don’t have a huge selection of craft beers, but the IPAs we did have were really good!
3. Lomond: Our Go-To Local Spot
Hours: Mon & Tues 5pm-10pm, Wed – Fri 5pm-11pm, Sat 3pm-12am, Sun 12pm-10pm

Lomond ended up being our favourite spot of all in San Telmo. It’s actually a quaint wine bar that’s attached to the Mercado de San Telmo. It has a true local feel, and since it’s such a small space, it actually provides the opportunity to get to know others. We were able to make some friends here and especially loved watching the FIFA games here too!
Now, I did mention that it’s first and foremost a wine bar; however, they do have a small selection of craft beer cans that are really, really good! These beers were unlike others we found at other bars, so I think it’s certainly worth going here even for craft beer. I recommend trying their Hazy IPA – it was amazing! One other special thing about this bar is that they also serve mulled wine! We were in San Telmo during the local autumn season (May/June), so this was the perfect drink for me!
4. Cervecería Untertürkheim: The German-Style Brewpub

We loved the atmosphere at Cervecería Untertürkheim, and it truly feels like a gem in the area. While it’s not quite in the heart of San Telmo and is a bit out of the way, I still recommend going. They have a whole selection of German beers and other favourites to choose from. The decor here is unlike any other bar as it’s filled with beer memorabilia. Lots of beer caps, signs, and pictures fill the walls, and it’s also a great place to watch a football match.
It was very busy when we went, and it did seem like a popular place to go to. We were asked if we had reservations (which we did not), so if you really want to go here, then perhaps a reservation just may be the way to go!
5. Santo Remedio: The Best Lively Local Spot
Hours: Mon-Thurs 11am-3am. Fri 11am-5pm, Sat 7pm-5am, Sun 7pm-3am

Santo Remedio is a very cool craft beer spot and one of the first that we went to. They have a decent selection of craft beers to choose from, and we loved what we got. We tried a few different drinks here as well and had a sausage bun. We were honestly amazing how many sauces they had for the sausage, and it was really good too.
It’s a very cool atmosphere, and we often found that it was a busy place when we walked by. It’s an open-air environment, meaning all the windows were open and people could either sit inside by the open window frame or stand outside. You feel like you are in an authentic, local bar. It has dated decor, but it fits this place perfectly, and we honestly loved it. Santo Remedio would be high on my list of recommendations simply for the atmosphere alone!
Where to Find the Best Craft Beer Bars in San Telmo on a Sunday
San Telmo completely transforms every Sunday for the Sunday San Telmo Market. It’s a huge market that gets completely flooded with people, but honestly it’s so worth going. We attended the market several weekends since we literally stayed just around the corner from it. If you can plan it just right, they also have a monthly event called San Telmo Se Copa. It’s a wine crawl where you rent a wine glass for the afternoon and walk around the market, topping up at participating wine bars. This honestly was such a fun event, and if you like to drink wine, you should consider going!
Not all of my favourite craft beer spots are open on Sundays, but a few are! Heading to The Gibralter or Santo Remedio would be ideal on a Sunday, as they are both located a street away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Especially on Calle Defensa (location of the market vendors), it’s soooooo busy that dining in this area isn’t the most relaxing.
Lomond is already a go-to choice for a Sunday; however, I would recommend going a bit later in the evening (if you can). We stopped here on the San Telmo Se Copa; however, it was really busy, and it kind of took away from that quaint feel and ambiance that is usually there. So with that said, I’d save Lomond for later in the day on Sunday when the crowds aren’t so busy!

It’s very typical for restaurants and bars to be open later on in the day. Many on this list don’t even open until 4pm. I would certainly double-check the times before going just to ensure that the bar is actually open. Some places close for a day or two during the week as well, or have varying hours each day. Best to be on the safe side and look up the bar before you go!
How much does a craft beer cost in Buenos Aires?
Craft beer in Buenos Aires is similar to what we are used to in Canada. Places like The Gibralter and Limond are a bit more expensive and will cost around $10 for a pint. We found the best deal to be at Bier Life, especially during their happy hour, where you can get 2×1 drinks.
Do craft beer bars in San Telmo serve food?
Yes, lots of these bars also sell food, making it a great place to stay for some appetizers and drinks. There are also so many restaurants open late that we rarely had issues finding food in the evenings. Some of our favourite pub food actually came from Valhalla (not on this list). We also enjoyed the burgers and craft beers at El Desembarco. While they didn’t make this list since they weren’t my top 5 bars, we did enjoy the food at both of these places!
